In honor of Halloween and, well, in honor of the public’s recent obsession with zombies, I feel inclined to share with you a very unique 5K that will undoubtedly force you to push yourself to the limit. The race is called “Run for Your Lives” and it is making its way across the United States – launching in Southern California on October 20 and “infecting” cities well into 2013. Welcome to a new trend in running: adventure-racing!
As a runner in the 5K obstacle course, you will begin the race with a flag belt and make your way through 3.1 miles of terrain and obstacles all while being chased by zombies, hoping to steal your brains (and your flag.) It is strongly recommended that you gather a team and come not only for the race, but the “Apocalypse Party” that follows. Bring $10 for parking and one factory sealed one-liter refreshment, along with plenty of cash for zombie gear and the after party.
Awards will be handed out at the finish line – those who finish with a flag in tact will be awarded an “alive” finisher’s medal, while those who finish the race, but have no flags receive a “dead” finisher’s medal.
Of course, Halloween is just around the corner, so your city may not be “infected” in time for the holiday, but you can still practice for the Zombie Apocalypse – an event that just might really happen, according to the CDC.
