Does coconut water give you the nutrients you need to optimize performance?
In a word (or two), it depends. One cup of pure coconut water is only about 46 calories and offers approximately 600 milligrams of potassium. Potassium is a nutrient essential for muscle-contraction and relaxation.
The key is finding the right coconut water. There are lots of products on the market, but many offer multiple servings in one bottle or can and lots of added sugar to enhance the flavor. You have to read the label carefully. Look for 100 percent coconut water with no added sugars. Don’t mistake coconut milk for coconut water. Coconut water is liquid extracted from young coconuts, while coconut milk is extracted from mature coconuts and is dense in calories and fat.
