According to research, asparagus is the cure to the common hangover.
These green stalks have a “stinky” reputation all their own, but this nutrient-rich veggie may soon rise in popularity, as headlines unveil the results of a 2009 study by the Institute of Food Technologists which uncovered evidence that asparagus extracts aid the body is metabolizing alcohol more quickly.
Science Daily reported that study researcher, B.Y. Kim, said in an interview, “Cellular toxicities were significantly alleviated in response to treatment with the extracts of asparagus leaves and shoots. These results provide evidence of how the biological functions of asparagus can help alleviate alcohol hangover and protect liver cells.”
Asparagus will do more than pacify a raging headache from an evening of alcohol induced fun. Adding asparagus to your diet can improve levels of folate, potassium and vitamin B12 – nutrients valuable to energy production.
